Welcome to the Village of Manlius Parks And Recreation Department web page. Recreation is an important part of our community as it fosters relationships in a happy and healthy environment.  We take pride in offering top-notch, year-round recreational, educational and social programs for individuals of all ages that are affordable and accessible to all. The Parks & Recreation Advisory Board meets the third Tuesday of every month.

Counselors/Camp Directors: Are you interested in being a summer counselor for playgrounds? We are always looking for great counselors! If you like to spend your summer outside playing with children, this is the job for you! Counselors will be in charge of children in groups of various ages ranging from 3 years old to 8th grade.  We require a background check and a six week commitment: 7/6/2016-8/12/2016. Plus a Mandatory training on June 27 9am-2pm.

Please fill out an application form here and either mail it to One Arkie Albanese Ave Manlius NY 13104 or drop it off at the Recreation Office at the same address. Applications received by March 11th will be given priority.  

Counselors In Training (CIT) must be 14 by the start of camp. CIT is a volunteer position that allows participants to learn skills such as responsibility, leadership, and confidence. Participants gain the opportunity to build their resume and learn about being a summer counselor by shadowing other counselors and participating in activities. They will also gain experience by participating in the application and interview process. Summer Playground Registration is coming up!
We are looking forward to another fun year of field trips, arts, crafts, gym, field games, and loads more fun activities!
Registration deadline: June 17th
Ages: 3 years old-8th grade 

Playground registration dates:

Village of Manlius Residents March 21st*.
Open registration April 4th*.

*Registration forms will not be accepted until the above dates.

Please note that Session 1 will start on Wednesday July 6th due to the 4th of July Holiday.

Village of Manlius Residents: Morning:$80 Afternoon $50

Morning program: Monday-Friday 9am-12noon

**Child must be signed up for morning program to be in afternoon program.

Playground is held at the Recreation Building at 6 Stickley Drive in Manlius.

French cooking for Kids

Join us for a fun cooking class where you and your child(ages 5-10) will learn how to cook French cuisine and even learn a little French Language! Classes are taught by Marie Rauturier a french-native instructor who runs the Fayetteville Manlius French Academy.  Pre-registration is required.

Adult Softball League: Thursdays May 5-Aug 21, 6-8pm on High School Softball Fields. Women 18 years or older or out of high school are eligible. Get together a group of friends and form a team! Softball league has been cancelled this year due to lack of teams. there is still time if you have a team please call 682-7887 ASAP

  Each week in class we combine your child's natural love of music, storytelling, and imaginative play with age-appropriate activities that introduce early music concepts and foster independence, social and emotional skills, language growth, and self-control. We also connect you with other parents who share in the wonder of parenting a "big kid"!  Parents stay for our first full class, then are welcome to stay or go for future classes. Parents join class for the final activities each week.

 Cygnet Soccer

We are adding a new time slot at 3:30 on Fridays!

Your 3-5 year old will learn fundamental skills of soccer while developing a love for the game. Class is Coached by Jaime Galway who has been teaching in the area since 2003! Coach Galway encourages early participation in group sports to help foster self confidence, sportsmanship, creativity and the ability to solve challenges instinctively. Classes begin February 26.

Six week sessions are $50 for Village Residents
                                    $60 for Non Residents

Beginner French for Adults

Learn how to introduce yourself, respond politely, ask simple questions, understand French society and culture, among other language skills. Please click here for complete  class description.

Tae Kwon Do Logo 

 New! Want to learn a new skill? Try our new Tae Kwon Do Club! Ages 10- adult. Monday Nights 6:00pm-7:30pm. At Manlius Village Centre. Village Residents $55 Non Village Residents $65.

Session 2: March 7- May 2nd

 

 Class Description: The Village of Manlius Tae Kwon Do Club practices the Chung Do Kwan style of Tae Kwon Do as brought to the United States by Grandmaster Duk Sung Son.  Class is taught by Paul Rogers, a 2nd degree black belt student of Grandmaster Son’s, and is overseen by Grandmaster Pete Michaelson.  This is a traditional style of Tae Kwon Do that is a great form of exercise and teaches effective self defense.  Chung Do Kwan is based on six core tenets of Speed, Balance, Power, Focus, Control, and Relaxation that are developed by the activities that we practice in class.  The class is broken down into a short run and stretching to warm up, basic techniques, forms, free style sparring, three step sparring and finally a warm down.  There is no offensive contact during the sparring sessions to reinforce the focus and control aspects of the martial art, as well as for the safety of all students.  Please join us for a fun and exciting class.

    

Zumba Fitness

Join Zumba, the latest, hottest class to sweep the fitness world.  Move to the energizing rhythm of Latin music.  Have fun while working out and burning calories. Zumba is novice friendly and easy to follow.  Wear sneakers and bring a water bottle! Registration is ongoing.

Beautification Committee

Village of Manlius Beautification Committee

The Village of Manlius Beautification Committee is a volunteer group dedicated to improving the quality of life in the village with flowers. We plan, plant, and maintain the roadside planters, as well as the in-ground plantings around the Village Center and major intersections. We are always looking for volunteers!

Whether you are an experienced or novice gardener, village resident or not, we welcome your help! Please call the Parks and Recreation Office at 682-7887, or one of the co-chairs: Karen Ogborn (682-0836) or Marcia Rahim (663- 4004) for more information.

Open Gym

The gymnasium at the Manlius Village Centre is open Monday-Thursday from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. and Friday 10am-Noon for anyone who would like to play in the gym, with adult supervision.  There are basketballs, balls, and other great toys for your little ones to play with. Please check the events calendar here for possible cancellations. 


Village Parks and Buildings

Village Centre - The Village Centre located at 1 Arkie Albanese Ave., features an indoor gymnasium and an auditorium that can be rented by non-profit organizations or used to host village sponsored events. The well-known Swan Pond, a softball and soccer field, the amphitheater, and a small playground can all be found at Village Centre.  After spending time at the Centre, walk down to the Centre Pond where children and seniors can fish on certain days of the week with a permit from the clerk’s office.  Centre Pond has a beautiful path around it that will lead you to the Village Swan Pond.  Come and meet Faye and Manny, our resident swans.  If you want to feed the ducks there are feeders available to the public.

Mill Run Park - Located at the very end of Mill Street, Mill Run Park offers a large variety of outdoor recreational opportunities. Book a family get-together at the Whorrall Pavilions, bring your fishing pole, enjoy our playground, play volleyball, horseshoes, Bocce Ball, or softball - or just enjoy the spectacular scenery that Mill Run Park has to offer. Perry Springs Park and Fish Hatchery - Located on Park Drive in the middle of the village, Perry Springs Park offers hiking trails and a beautiful pond where you can sit and relax.  Additionally, Perry Springs is home to the Village Fish Hatchery which offers a unique view of different varieties of trout in different stages of growth. Come feed our fish on a Saturday morning and get a firsthand look at the inner-workings of the hatchery. Click here for a copy of the Perry Springs Flier.

Recreational Building - Located at 6 Stickley Drive, this building is a perfect place to hold a small civic meeting or a large family party. With two rooms of different sizes, the Rec. Building can be used by the public for a variety of different events as well as host the village's ever-popular summer playground program. With an extensive group of ball-fields just outside the door, as well as a covered pavilion, the Rec. Building is a perfect venue for an indoor or outdoor celebration.
